MP: Indore’s drinking water system to be strengthened; CM Dr. Mohan Yadav gifts projects worth over Rs 800 crore
MP: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav performed Bhoomi Poojan for a long-awaited drinking water supply project worth over Rs 800 crore under the Swachh Jal Abhiyan, as part of the AMRUT 2.0 Indore Water Supply Scheme (Package–1) on Wednesday. The project aims to provide a robust, modern, and long-term solution to Indore’s drinking water needs.
CM Dr. Yadav, extending greetings on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, said that the recent water-related incident in the Bhagirathpura area had caused deep anguish. Expressing profound condolences to the families of the deceased, he prayed to Baba Mahakal for peace to the departed souls. He noted that Makar Sankranti is not merely a festival, but a symbol of steady progress, just as the sun begins its northward journey and light increases, Indore continues to advance towards growth, development and innovation.
Indore would not resort to opportunistic politics
CM Dr. Mohan Yadav said that Indore would not resort to opportunistic politics in times of disaster. While a positive and constructive opposition strengthens democracy, politicising human suffering is wholly inappropriate. He recalled the long struggle to connect the Malwa and Nimar regions with Narmada water and said that credit for completing the Sardar Sarovar Dam and ensuring national water security goes to Narendra Modi. This has led to a historic increase in irrigation capacity, enabling irrigation across more than 56 lakh hectares in Madhya Pradesh.
CM said the government is committed to supplying clean drinking water to every village and city through the Jal Jeevan Mission.
Indore will continue its journey towards excellence
CM outlined key features of the project, including a 1,650 MLD intake well at villages Jalud and Bhakalay, construction of 2,235 mm diameter raw and clear water pumping mains, 11 kV, 33 kV, and 132 kV substations for uninterrupted power supply, a 400 MLD modern water treatment plant and a 12 MLD break pressure tank for water pressure regulation. He expressed confidence that with public cooperation, Indore will continue its journey towards excellence.
Urban Administration and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya recalled the historic public movement to bring Narmada water to Indore, describing it as a symbol of the city’s collective strength and resolve. He said the Narmada water project was not merely a scheme, but the outcome of Indore’s public determination.
Members of Parliament, MLAs, senior officials, public representatives, and citizens were present during the event.
