Indore: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a scathing attack on the government over the deaths and illnesses caused by contaminated water in Indore. He said that people are dying after drinking the water, and this is being touted as a smart city and urban model. The government is not fulfilling its responsibilities and must be held accountable for this entire matter.

Upon arriving in Indore on Saturday, Rahul Gandhi first visited Bombay Hospital to meet with patients who had fallen ill due to contaminated water and their families. He then went to Bhagirathpura, where he met with the families of Geeta Bai and Jeevanlal, who lost their lives due to the contaminated water, and offered his condolences. He presented cheques to both families as financial assistance.

'This is not just a problem in Indore'

Rahul Gandhi also met with other affected families at Sanskar Garden in Indore. There, he distributed cheques of Rs. 1 lakh to each family, and Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar distributed cheques of Rs. 50,000 each. During this time, Rahul Gandhi said that this is not just a problem in Indore, but people in many cities across the country are struggling to get clean water.

After meeting with the affected families in Bhagirathpura, Rahul Gandhi said that this is the model of the so-called new smart city, where even clean drinking water is not available. Families suffered illnesses and deaths after drinking the water. He said that people are being intimidated, and even today, clean water is not available in the area.

'My objective is to raise my voice for the rights of the people'

Rahul Gandhi said that the government should take responsibility in this matter. Compensation should be provided for the medical expenses and the deaths. He clarified that even if this is called politics, his objective is to raise his voice for the rights of the people.

On the question of politics, Rahul Gandhi said that he has come here to help and stand with the victims. As the Leader of the Opposition, it is his responsibility to raise his voice where people are not receiving basic facilities.

During this time, Rahul Gandhi was accompanied by former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, State In-charge Harish Chaudhary, State Congress President Jitu Patwari, Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar, and Ajay Singh, along with several other Congress leaders.
