How Chhindwara farmer cultivated G-9 bananas on rocky land; traders propose to purchase the produce directly from his field
Kailash Pawar, a progressive farmer from Bhutai village in the Mohkhed development block of Chhindwara district, has set a new example in the agricultural sector through innovation. Pawar has proven that better yields are possible even on challenging land by cultivating the improved G-9 variety of bananas on approximately 18 acres using modern techniques. He procured G-9 saplings from Pune in April of last year and planted them using a drip irrigation system. The crop is now fully mature in just about 11 months.
According to farmer Pawar, the entire crop will be harvested after February 15th and by the end of March, and he expects a profit of Rs. 2.5 to 3 lakh per acre. Considering the quality of the crop, traders from Jabalpur and Nagpur have visited the farm for inspection and are contacting him to purchase the produce directly from the field. Significantly, these bananas were grown on rocky and gravelly land where it is generally considered impossible to cultivate other crops.
Team from Agriculture Department also visited the farm
A team from the Agriculture Department also visited the farm to observe this innovative approach and appreciated the techniques adopted by the farmer. It is noteworthy that Shri Kailash Pawar has been an innovative farmer for some time.
Last year, he cultivated strawberries on approximately 6 acres and earned a good profit. This year, he has also cultivated strawberries on 6 acres, blueberries on one acre, and golden berries on one acre, the produce of which is expected to reach the market after February 15th.
Kailash Pawar's initiative is an inspiration for other farmers in the region, conveying the message that agriculture can be made a profitable business through innovation, technology, and hard work.
