MP: Congress questions government over Ladli Behna Yojana, MLAs walk out
Bhopal: In the Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Monday, the main opposition party, Congress, not only questioned the government regarding the increase in the amount of the government's ambitious scheme, the Ladli Behna Yojana, but also walked out, dissatisfied with Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav's response.
During question hour, Congress MLA Mahesh Parmar asked Women and Child Development Minister Nirmala Bhuria that when the scheme was launched, it was announced that the amount would be increased to Rs. 3,000 per month. Under this scheme, there is a provision to provide funds to women between the ages of 21 and 60.
Parmar asked when will new registrations begin for women who have reached the age of 21 since the scheme was implemented, and when will the monthly amount be increased to Rs. 3,000 per month? He also cited previous statements made by two government ministers, Vijay Shah and Karan Singh Verma, regarding the women beneficiaries of the Ladli Behna Yojana, alleging that the women beneficiaries of this scheme are the most defrauded by the government.
In her response, Minister Ms. Bhuria stated that an amount of Rs 18,528 crore has been disbursed under this scheme, which began in March 2023. An additional Rs 250 was also given to beneficiary women on Raksha Bandhan. Work is underway to increase this amount to Rs 3,000.
Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar questioned Minister Ms Bhuria regarding new registrations under the scheme, to which she replied that it was impossible to provide details. This sparked a commotion from Congress members. Singhar raised questions about the government's financial arrangements.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, who was present in the House, said that when this scheme was launched, Congress members had raised questions, saying that it was merely an election-oriented announcement. However, the government implemented the scheme and the amount has now been increased from one to one and a half thousand rupees per month. He said that the Bharatiya Janata Party's manifesto calls for this amount to be increased to three thousand rupees in five years.
The Chief Minister then recited a couplet, which displeased the Congress MLAs and they walked out.
