Israel has attacked several cities, including Iran's capital, Tehran. Explosions were heard and air raid sirens were sounding in several cities, including Tehran, on Saturday morning, Indian time.

The locations reported to have been attacked in Tehran so far include the Intelligence Ministry, the Defense Ministry, the office of Supreme Leader Khamenei, and Iran's Atomic Energy Organization. Khamenei has been moved to a safe place following the attack.

The US and Israel have confirmed the attacks on Iran. Israel's Defense Minister initially announced that Iran had been preemptively attacked.

Shortly afterward, US President Donald Trump posted an eight-minute video on his social media platform, Truth Social, confirming the US's involvement in the attack on Iran.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Kats issued a statement declaring a "special and permanent state of emergency" throughout Israel.

Trump has stated that the US has launched a "major combat operation" in Iran.

Trump stated, "Our goal is to protect the American people by eliminating the threat posed by the Iranian regime."

Iran fires about 400 missiles

Iran has also launched retaliatory attacks against Israel. According to media reports, Iran has fired approximately 400 missiles in retaliation. 

Israel has named its new campaign against Iran "Lion's Roar." US officials reported that this is a joint military action between the US and Israel.

This attack comes amid ongoing negotiations between Iran and the US on nuclear weapons. US President Donald Trump had threatened to attack Iran. He stated that the purpose of this action is to protect America and its people from danger.

According to Trump, the US military is trying to destroy Iran's missiles and end its missile program.

The ballistic missile project has become the biggest point of contention in the ongoing nuclear deal negotiations between Iran and the US. Iran is not willing to compromise on this issue at all and considers it a red line.

Iran says its ballistic missile program is essential for defense. Iran says that when Israel and the US attacked Iran's nuclear sites in June 2025, Iran's missiles protected it.

Iranian officials have repeatedly stated that there will be no discussion on the missile program. It is Iran's defensive capability and abandoning it would mean weakening itself. Iran maintains that negotiations will be limited to the nuclear program, not missiles or regional groups.

Iran Attacks Bahrain and Qatar

Iran also fired several missiles at a US military base in Bahrain, Israel's neighboring country. The US is located in Qatar's Al Udeid Air Base.

An Iranian missile was intercepted over Qatar. Qatar's Defense Ministry says its Patriot defense system intercepted an Iranian missile.
