Haridwar: On the auspicious occasion of Mahashivratri-2026, Haridwar in Uttarakhand witnessed a remarkable confluence of faith and devotion. Devotees, especially in Kankhal, considered Lord Shiva's in-laws' home, witnessed a surge of devotees from early morning. Devotees were seen standing in queues for hours for the Jalabhishek and prayers.

Mahashivratri is celebrated as the divine wedding day of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. With this faith, thousands of devotees are offering water, Bel leaves, Datura, and flowers at various Shiva temples, including the Daksheshwar Prajapati Mahadev Temple, praying for the fulfillment of their wishes. It is believed that performing Jalabhishek on this ancient Shivalinga in Kankhal bestows special virtuous results and alleviates suffering.

Highlighting the spiritual significance of Mahashivratri, the temple's head priest, Mahant Ravindra Puri Maharaj, said that this night of the month of Phalgun is the best time for meditation, vigil, and Shiva Abhishek. He explained that worship performed with devotion fulfills everyone's desires, and that wearing ashes and Tripundra is a special symbol of Shiva worship.

Devotees say that offering water to Daksheshwar Mahadev brings peace to the mind and a sense of liberation from life's hardships. This is why both local residents and devotees from across the country are arriving here for darshan and worship.

The administration is fully vigilant regarding security arrangements. Circle Officer Sanjay Chauhan stated that police forces have been deployed since 3 am, and strict vigil is being maintained from the temple premises to the roads. A joint arrangement between the PAC and local police is ensuring smooth darshan for devotees.

Amidst devotion, faith, and spiritual ecstasy, Mahashivratri is being celebrated with full devotion on the sacred land of Kankhal. The atmosphere is filled with devotion for Shiva with the chanting of “Har Har Mahadev” along with the Jalabhishek.
