Indian Air Force Sukhoi aircraft goes missing in Assam; search and rescue operations underway
An Indian Air Force Sukhoi aircraft has been reported missing in Assam. The Indian Air Force has stated that a search and rescue operation has been launched.
The Indian Air Force posted about this on X. It states, "An Indian Air Force Su-30 MKI has been reported missing from its destination."
"The aircraft took off from Jorhat, Assam and was last contacted at 7:42 pm. Further details are being ascertained. A search and rescue operation has been launched."
According to initial information, the 4.5-generation Sukhoi-30 aircraft went missing in Karbi Anglong district. Reports claimed that the aircraft had crashed and that people there had heard an explosion. However, this has not been officially confirmed.
The fighter jet was on a routine flight or mission when it suddenly lost contact with ground control. Following the loss of radar contact, the Air Force immediately issued an alert and dispatched an IAF team to Assam to investigate the incident.
Indian Air Force officials stated that the exact location of the aircraft and the cause of the loss of contact are currently being determined. Air Force teams are currently locating the site of the incident. A search operation is also underway in the area to gather information about the aircraft and the pilots on board.
