MP Agriculture Cabinet's Major Decisions: Mustard Included in Bhavantar Yojana, Varla-Pansemal Irrigation Project Approved
Dr. Mohan Yadav government in Madhya Pradesh has taken several major and far-reaching decisions in the interest of farmers. The Agriculture Cabinet meeting held on March 2 at Shikhardham in Nagalwadi, Barwani district, included important decisions such as the inclusion of mustard in the Bhavantar Yojana, the approval of the Varla-Pansemal Micro Lift Irrigation Project, and the approval of 16 schemes worth Rs 27,746 crore.
This is the first time an Agriculture Cabinet meeting has been held in Barwani. Before the meeting, the Chief Minister visited the Vilesh Temple. The meeting was held in an area of approximately 8 acres at the foothills of the Bhilatdev Temple, designated as a temporary ministry, and attended by approximately 25 state government ministers.
16 Schemes Worth Rs 27,746 Crore Approved
Prioritizing farmer welfare, 16 schemes across six departments have been approved, entailing an expenditure of over Rs 27,746 crore. The CM stated in a press conference that the year 2026 is being celebrated as the "Year of Farmer Welfare" in the state. The government is holding Agriculture Cabinet meetings in various regions and reaching out to farmers to formulate policies.
Schemes worth Rs 4,264 crore from the Food Processing Department have been approved, while schemes worth Rs 8,166 crore from the Cooperative Department have also been approved. So far, schemes worth more than Rs 38,000 crore have been approved for farmers.
Mustard included in the Bhavantar Yojana
The decision to include mustard in the Bhavantar Yojana has been taken to ensure better support prices for farmers in the state. This will protect them from financial losses in the event of low market prices. The government believes that including mustard in the scheme will boost oilseed production and increase farmers' income.
Varla-Pansemal Micro Lift Irrigation Project
To strengthen agriculture in the Nimar region, a micro lift irrigation project has been approved in the Varla and Pansemal areas. This project will provide irrigation facilities to thousands of farmers in the region and increase crop production. The CM stated that due to irrigation projects, the Nimar region is known nationwide for its excellent agricultural practices, and the government will further strengthen this initiative.
Modern Agricultural Produce Market and Model Market
A new agricultural produce market equipped with modern facilities will be constructed in Barwani. Additionally, the Khetia Agricultural Produce Market has been announced to be developed as an ideal market. This will ensure farmers receive better prices for their produce and boost trade activities.
New Fisheries Policy
A new fisheries policy will be introduced in the state to promote fish production and related businesses. Under this policy, subsidies will be provided for the installation of cold chains, marketing structures, refrigerated vans, and feed plants. The government aims to increase the income of fish producers and create employment opportunities in rural areas.
Agricultural Education in Colleges
To connect youth with modern farming techniques, preparations will be made to teach agricultural subjects in colleges. The government believes that if youth receive scientific and technical farming education, they will adopt innovation and give a new direction to the agricultural sector.
Tourism Development of the Bhilatdev Area
An announcement has also been made to develop the Bhilat Dev area as a tourist destination. Tourism will be promoted by developing infrastructure in this area of religious and cultural importance, which will provide employment opportunities to the local people.
Support to National Shooting Champion
At the meeting, financial assistance of Rs. 5 lakh was announced to the father of National Shooting Champion Vaishnavi Mahule for a shooting academy. The CM said that the state government will provide all possible support to promote sports talent.
