MP: Big boost to rural tourism: Guests from France captivated by warm hospitality of Devgarh, relish Sama ki Kheer, Makke ki Roti and Chutney

Rural tourism in in Devgarh, Chhindwara: To promote rural tourism, guests from France received a warm and heartfelt welcome at a homestay established in Devgarh, a project undertaken in collaboration with the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board. During their three-day stay, the French guests immersed themselves in the local rural culture and way of life. 

They visited Kalakot—a village situated in a remote region—and, after a meal, sampled Sama ki Kheer (barnyard millet pudding), exclaiming, "Very tasty!" Captivated by the sense of belonging and warmth they experienced in Devgarh, the French guests pledged to share stories of the unparalleled hospitality they received here with people back in their home country. 

The Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board, in partnership with the 'Back to Village' organization, has remarkably developed the homestay facility in Devgarh village. Tourists staying at the homestay are full of praise for the excellent amenities and services provided there.

A Visit to Patalkot: The French guests, staying in Devgarh—a village in the Mohkhed block renowned for its history and tourism potential—thoroughly enjoyed their time exploring the local attractions. During their three-day itinerary, they dedicated one day to visiting Patalkot. From the vantage points at Rated and Chimtipur, they admired the panoramic views of Patalkot and engaged in conversations with the local tribal villagers along the way.

Exploring Tribal Homes in Kalakot: During their tour of Devgarh, the French guests ventured into Kalakot, a village nestled in a remote corner of the region. Here, they gained insights into the cuisine prepared within the homes of the Mavasi tribal community, as well as their lifestyle and cultural traditions. 

The foreign guests experienced the authentic rural ambiance firsthand, participating in various activities such as sharing meals in local homes and observing local festivals and cultural rituals. Additionally, they observed traditional attire, indigenous clothing styles, and the unique adornments and accessories used by the tribal people.

Savoring Corn Roti and Chutney: The foreign guests also indulged in traditional local cuisine during their visit. They particularly enjoyed the Makke ki Roti (corn flatbread), tomato chutney, and Sama ki Kheer. The guests purchased handmade clay piggy banks (Gullaks) crafted within the village and presented them as gifts to the homestay proprietor, Mrs. Kavita Devisingh Dhurve. A particularly noteworthy highlight of their visit was that, in addition to dining at the homestay, the foreign guests also accepted invitations to share meals within the homes of the local villagers.
