MP: Shelter of Maternal Love in Mandsaur and a New Ray of Hope: The Untold Story of Anamika Jain's Pledge of Service
A daughter of Mandsaur has taken it upon herself to end the hidden suffering and restore the lost identities of those whom society often dismisses as "mentally unstable." Mrs. Anamika Jain, a resident of Sanjit (Mandsaur) in Madhya Pradesh, has today become a "savior" for destitute women who previously had no place to call home.
A Journey of Change Sparked by a Simple Idea
Mrs. Anamika’s journey of service began 17 or 18 years ago, alongside her father. Having completed her Master of Social Work (MSW), Anamika was deeply moved when she witnessed the plight of society's most neglected segment—destitute and mentally distressed women.
Initially, during the first seven years, she used to care for these women before sending them to orphanages in Indore or Ujjain. However, they were frequently turned away due to a lack of space. At that time Anamika used to feel so helplessness that she would lie awake at night. It was this very anguish that laid the foundation for the "Anamika Jan Kalyan Seva Samiti Vikshipt Ashray Grih" (Anamika Public Welfare Service Committee Shelter for the Mentally Distressed).
Apna Ghar on Rewas Devda Road
In 2018, with the support of the local administration, she established this shelter home within a government building (known as "500 Quarters") located on Rewas Devda Road. This became the first ashram of its kind in Madhya Pradesh—one that not only provides shelter to women but also focuses specifically on their rehabilitation. "These women need a family and love far more than they need medicine," says Anamika Ji. In her ashram, festivals are not merely rituals but a confluence of joy, where these women are immersed in a truly familial atmosphere.
A Blend of Technology and Compassion: Reuniting Separated Families via Google
Anamika's work extends far beyond merely providing shelter. She facilitates medical treatment for women brought in by the police department and organizes playful, engaging activities designed to help them regain their lost memories.
Success Statistics: To date, 54 women have been successfully treated and reunited with their loved ones.
Digital Assistance: Utilizing Google Maps and various online platforms, she traces the addresses of women who had lost their way home—sometimes for years on end.
Transforming Challenges into Strength: Recipient of the 'Rani Avanti Bai State-Level Award'
Anamika received unwavering support from her husband
Throughout this arduous journey, Anamika received unwavering support from her husband. The resonance of her work eventually reached the corridors of the government. For her efforts in combating violence against women, fighting against social evils such as child marriage, and rehabilitating the underprivileged, she was honored by the state government with the 'Rani Avanti Bai State-Level Bravery Award.'
A Vision for the Future: A Hub for Self-Reliance
Anamika Jain envisions not just a shelter, but a future defined by self-reliance. She is actively engaged in running schools within leprosy colonies and Gadoliya settlements, helping women overcome alcohol addiction, and providing vocational skills training to Kalyanis.
Her ultimate goal is to establish a sprawling rehabilitation center where every woman can access both education and employment opportunities. "A woman's sensitivity is her greatest strength. If we simply join hands and support one another, no community will ever remain helpless."
