When is Hanuman Jayanti 2026? Following the grand festivals of Chaitra Navratri and Ram Navami, the auspicious festival of Hanuman Jayanti will now be celebrated across the entire country with deep reverence and devotion. This year, this Jayanti is being observed on Thursday, April 2nd. In the Indian Sanatan tradition, every festival encapsulates within itself a profound message of spiritual consciousness, faith, and a philosophy of life.
One such sacred celebration is Hanuman Janmotsav, which is observed as the day of divine manifestation of Lord Hanuman—the supreme devotee of Lord Rama, the embodiment of extraordinary valor, and the 'Sankatmochan' (Remover of Troubles).
Spiritual Significance of Hanuman Jayanti
The festival of Hanuman Jayanti—marking the Janmotsav of Lord Hanuman, the supreme devotee of Maryada Purushottam Lord Rama—is celebrated every year on the day of Purnima (Full Moon) during the month of Chaitra. It is believed that offering prayers and worship to Bajrangbali (Lord Hanuman) on this day helps dispel all troubles and ushers in happiness, peace, and prosperity in one's life.
How to Worship Lord Hanuman on Hanuman Jayanti
In the early morning, after completing your bath and morning ablutions, take a solemn pledge (Sankalp) to observe the fast and prepare for the worship ceremony.
After finishing your daily morning rituals, place an idol or image of Lord Hanuman on a wooden platform (Patla) covered with a red or yellow cloth. You should sit on a Kush or grass mat, clad in clean and pure garments. Now, ceremonially install the idol of Lord Hanuman upon the platform.
First, offer Sindoor (vermilion) and a garland of flowers to the Lord.
Next, light incense sticks (Dhup) and an oil lamp (Deep), and offer Boondi as Bhog (sacred food offering).
During this ritual, it is also considered auspicious to offer Besan ke Laddus (gram flour sweets) as Bhog; doing so is believed to please the Lord.
Finally, with deep faith and devotion, recite the Hanuman Chalisa. Now, offer jaggery and roasted gram (Gur-Chana), along with a paan (betel leaf preparation).
Finally, perform the Aarti and distribute the Prasad among everyone present.
