West Asia Crisis: PM Modi holds virtual meeting with Chief Ministers, makes this appeal to CMs
Amidst the deepening conflict in West Asia and the growing threat of a closure of the Strait of Hormuz, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level virtual meeting with the Chief Ministers of the states. The primary objective of this emergency meeting is to ensure the uninterrupted supply of oil, gas, and other essential commodities within India, notwithstanding the global turmoil.
The Prime Minister clarified that while the international situation may be challenging, the common citizen at the domestic level should not have to face any form of shortage. He cautioned the Chief Ministers that this crisis in the Middle East could pose prolonged difficulties, and to tackle this, the Central Government is taking every possible diplomatic and strategic measure.
PM Modi's Appeal to the CMs
However, the success of these plans on the ground hinges entirely on the coordination of the states. The Prime Minister appealed to the Chief Ministers to establish robust mechanisms within their respective states to curb hoarding and prevent artificial price hikes in essential commodities.
PM Modi placed special emphasis on the fact that during times of national crisis, the Centre and the States must work together in unity—like a single family—to ensure that the global crisis does not cast a detrimental shadow over the country's economy and the lives of its citizens.
PM Modi will chair a meeting of CCS
PM Modi will later chair a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, the highest decision-making body on security and strategic matters of the country, in Delhi on Sunday night, government sources said.
"The prime minister will chair a meeting of the CCS on returning to Delhi tonight from his two-day tour of the states. He is expected to land here at around 9.30 pm," a source said. PM Modi had visited Rajasthan, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry during the two-day tour.
