Chhattisgarh Weather: Mercury soars relentlessly, Rajnandgaon hottest at 42.8, check IMD's warning and predictions
Raipur: The summer heat has intensified across Chhattisgarh, with temperatures in several parts of the state soaring past the 40-degree Celsius mark. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heat wave warning for districts falling under the Bilaspur, Raipur, and Durg divisions.
Last Saturday, Rajnandgaon emerged as the hottest city in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 44 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, temperatures of 42.8 degrees were recorded in Raipur and Durg; 42 degrees in Bilaspur; 40.6 degrees in Jagdalpur; 39.8 degrees in Pendra Road; and 39.5 degrees Celsius in Ambikapur. The lowest minimum temperature in the state was recorded in Ambikapur at 20.4 degrees Celsius.
According to the Meteorological Department, weather conditions are expected to remain dry across most parts of the state, and no significant change in maximum temperatures is anticipated over the next 24 hours. However, a further rise in temperatures may be observed in several districts.
Temps likely to rise in about 20 districts
The Department has indicated that temperatures are likely to rise in approximately 20 districts, including Durg, Raipur, Rajnandgaon, Korba, Raigarh, Bilaspur, Balodabazar, Kabirdham, and Dhamtari. Conversely, districts such as Kanker, Sukma, Gariaband, Bijapur, Bastar, Dantewada, Narayanpur, and Kondagaon are likely to experience light rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.
Some parts of the state may witness rainfall activity by April 22
The impact of active weather systems in other parts of the country is also being felt. A cyclonic circulation is active over Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Meghalaya, while an anti-cyclonic circulation persists over Maharashtra. Additionally, a trough line is extending from Uttar Pradesh down to Tamil Nadu.
The Meteorological Department forecasts that by April 22, 2026, some parts of the state may witness rainfall activity accompanied by thunder and lightning, which could offer partial relief from the prevailing heat.
