This holy day symbolizes hope and new life: PM

Extending his greetings on 'X', Prime Minister Modi stated that this holy day symbolizes hope and new life. He expressed the wish that the teachings of Jesus Christ would inspire everyone to be compassionate and to reinforce the spirit of solidarity within society.

In his message, Kharge remarked that the resurrection of Jesus Christ serves as an eternal lesson that truth always triumphs over falsehood and that hope rises above despair.

Prayers, special church services held

Easter is one of the most significant festivals in Christianity, celebrated to commemorate the resurrection (rising from the dead) of Jesus Christ. This festival symbolizes victory over despair and the promise of new beginnings.

Prayers, special church services, and acts of charity constitute the core elements of this celebration. In India, the festivities are particularly vibrant in states such as Kerala, Goa, West Bengal, and the Northeastern states, where churches are adorned with flowers and special prayer services are organized.

According to tradition, Jesus Christ was crucified by Roman rulers in Jerusalem approximately two thousand years ago. The day on which he was crucified is observed as 'Good Friday.' Following his crucifixion, his mortal remains were placed in a tomb, and a massive stone was rolled across its entrance.

On the third day after the crucifixion—that is, Sunday—when his followers arrived at the site, they discovered that the stone had been moved and the tomb was empty. It is believed that Jesus Christ had triumphed over death and risen back to life. This very day is celebrated as Easter. While Good Friday symbolizes sacrifice for the sake of truth, Easter signifies the triumph of truth over falsehood.
