CM Suvendu Adhikari Takes a Firm Stance on Illegal Migration in West Bengal, what warning he issued to stone pelters?
Suvendu Adhikari's Statement on Illegal Immigrants in Bengal: Ever since assuming office in West Bengal, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has remained in the headlines due to a series of stringent administrative decisions. Whether it involves crackdowns on illegal encroachments in Kolkata, new regulations regarding animal slaughter, or the allocation of land to the BSF, his government's actions have sparked widespread political debate across the state. Now, the Chief Minister's latest remarks concerning illegal migrants have once again ignited a debate and garnered significant public attention.
Strict action against infiltrators
Speaking at a public event on Camac Street in Kolkata on Monday, CM Suvendu made it clear that his government is preparing to take strict action against infiltrators residing illegally within the state. He asserted that the process of identifying such individuals through voter lists has already been completed, and their names have been struck off.
Next step is to expel them from the country
During his address, he stated, "First, we identified them through the voter lists; then, we removed those names; and now, the next step is to expel them from the country." Although he did not specify a precise timeline for this action, his statement has triggered anxiety among illegal migrants and has elicited fresh political reactions.
Census process resumed
Suvendu Adhikari also touched upon the census process, noting that his government has resumed the exercise—a process that was allegedly halted during the tenure of the previous government led by Mamata Banerjee. According to him, the objective of this move is to enhance identification systems and maintain accurate records throughout the state.
Strict action will be taken against stone pelters
During his speech, CM Suvendu also expressed strong disapproval regarding the recent violence linked to anti-encroachment drives and crackdowns on illegal construction in Kolkata. Referring to incidents of stone-pelting in the Park Circus area, he issued a stern warning that strict action would be taken against those involved.
Govt is fully prepared to tackle hooliganism
Drawing a comparison with Kashmir, Suvendu Adhikari remarked that such incidents are no longer witnessed there; he further added that, in Bengal, certain people had become accustomed to a lack of strict action in the past. He emphasized that the situation has now changed, and the police have been instructed to take strict action while operating strictly within the bounds of the law. According to CM Suvendu, the era of leniency has come to an end, and the government is fully prepared to tackle hooliganism and maintain law and order in West Bengal.
Attacks on law enforcement agencies will not be tolerated
He also cited the vandalism of a police outpost in Asansol, declaring that the administration would not tolerate attacks on law enforcement agencies. He stated firmly, "Those responsible for this will undoubtedly have to face the consequences."
