On Wednesday, while on commentary duty during the second Eliminator match, Sehwag made a bold statement. He declared that if he were a member of the selection committee, he would immediately pick Vaibhav Suryavanshi for Team India.
This remark came after Vaibhav played a spectacular innings against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Batting aggressively right from the start, the Rajasthan Royals batsman scored 97 runs off just 29 balls. Reacting to the innings, Sehwag remarked that he had rarely witnessed such fearless batting at such a young age.
"I have never seen batting like this before. I, too, have scored fast centuries for India in ODIs, but the way this boy batted today was incredible. No one could have imagined that a 15-year-old kid would break Chris Gayle's record of 59 sixes," Sehwag said.
He further added:"If I were a selector, I would induct Vaibhav Suryavanshi into the Indian team right now." Vaibhav has emerged as one of the biggest stars of IPL 2026 so far. In 15 matches, he has scored 680 runs at a staggering strike rate of 242.85. His magnificent season includes one century and four half-centuries, making him one of the most dangerous batsmen in the tournament.
Sehwag Reveals How Much He Would Spend on Suryavanshi at the Auction
Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh asked Virender Sehwag how much he would be willing to spend on Suryavanshi at an auction.
