Karnataka: What did Home Minister Parameshwara say about decision to deny permission for Cockroach Janata Party rally in Bengaluru?
Bengaluru: Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara on Saturday clarified that the state government had no role in the Bengaluru police's decision to deny permission for the proposed rally of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), saying such matters fall squarely within the jurisdiction of law enforcement officials.
The CJP has recently attracted attention for its growing social media presence and unconventional political messages. It had planned to hold a public meeting near Bengaluru's Town Hall on Sunday, however, the police refused permission for the event.
Parameshwara told reporters here that the government does not interfere in such decisions made by the police. "When an organization applies for permission to hold a public meeting, the police assess various aspects, including the size of the crowd, the purpose of the event, and potential law and order issues. Granting or denying permission is entirely the police's decision," he said.
Parameshwara tried to distance the government from the controversy, saying that if the police had refused permission, there must be some reason behind it and said that the police would do their job and the politicians would do theirs.
Parameshwara also dismissed rumors about an alleged suicide attempt by jailed Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa as baseless. He said, "I spoke to police officials and they have clearly stated that no such incident has occurred."
Amidst speculation regarding a cabinet reshuffle in Karnataka, he stated that the aspirations of MLAs to secure ministerial posts are natural, but the final decision will depend on the party leadership and constitutional limitations.
