Monsoon 2026 likely to hit Kerala coast on May 26, says IMD; when will it arrive in MP? Will state receive receive normal rainfall
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday that the monsoon is likely to arrive in Kerala on May 26. Typically, the monsoon reaches Kerala around June 1 and subsequently advances northward to cover other parts of the country. Last year, the monsoon arrived on May 24, and rainfall was 8% higher than normal.
Monsoon expected to reach MP between June 10 and 16
In Madhya Pradesh, the monsoon is expected to arrive between June 10 and June 16. According to the IMD, after reaching Kerala around May 26, the monsoon will advance further to enter Madhya Pradesh. It is projected that the monsoon may make its entry through the western districts of the state—Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, and Burhanpur.
Most dists in the state likely to receive normal rainfall
According to the Meteorological Department, most districts in the state are likely to receive normal rainfall this season. On average, rainfall is expected to range between 75 and 80 CM. While rainfall is predicted to be above normal in Bhopal, Vidisha, and Sehore, the rainfall may be normal or below in Indore, Ujjain, Gwalior, Chambal, Jabalpur, Rewa, Shahdol, and Sagar divisions.
Rainfall in Several Districts; hailstones lash Katni
Meanwhile, amidst the approaching signs of the monsoon, weather patterns across the state have begun to shift. On Friday evening, a severe dust storm accompanied by hailstones lashed Katni. In Umaria, rainfall resulted in wheat stocks stored at procurement centers getting soaked. The Mehdwani and Shahpura regions of Dindori also witnessed strong winds and heavy rain, leading to a drop in temperature of up to 6 degrees and providing much-needed relief to residents from the heat.
