Prices of petrol and diesel hiked again in just 5 days, check new rates
The prices of petrol and diesel across the country have been hiked by an average of 90 paise per liter each with effect from May 19. This marks the second hike in fuel prices within just five days. Prior to this, on Friday, May 15, the prices of petrol and diesel had been increased by Rs 3 per liter each.
In the capital, Delhi, petrol has become costlier by Rs 0.87, reaching Rs 98.64 per liter, while diesel has risen by Rs 0.91 to Rs 91.58 per liter. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, petrol is selling at Rs 107.59 per liter following a hike of Rs 0.91, and diesel is priced at Rs 94.08 per liter after an increase of Rs 0.94.
In Kolkata, petrol has risen by Rs 1 to reach Rs 109.70 per liter, and diesel has climbed by Rs 0.94 to hit ₹96.07 per liter. In Chennai, petrol has become dearer by Rs 0.79, reaching Rs 104.46 per liter, and diesel has increased by Rs 0.86 to Rs 96.11 per liter.
With the hike, the prices of other commodities may also rise.
Truck and tempo rentals will go up, making vegetables, fruits, and groceries arriving from other states more expensive.
Farmers will have to incur higher expenses to operate tractors and pumping sets, which will drive up the cost of food grains.
An increase may also be observed in the fares for public transport and school buses.
CNG prices had also hiked
Earlier on Sunday, CNG prices in the national capital, Delhi, had risen marking the second hike in CNG prices within the last two days. Consequently, the burden of fuel costs on commuters in the Delhi-NCR region had increased\.
Following the price hike, CNG in Delhi now stands at Rs80.09 per kilogram. This is the first time that CNG prices in Delhi have crossed the Rs Rs 80 mark. Following this increase, the price of CNG in Noida and Ghaziabad will now be Rs 88.70 per kilogram.
