Rajasthan Royals' young batsman, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, has once again grabbed the headlines. He played a magnificent innings against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL Eliminator at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh Stadium in Mullanpur.
Hyderabad won the toss and elected to bowl first, following which Rajasthan got off to a blistering start. Openers Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal dismantled Hyderabad's bowling attack, propelling the team to a score of 80 runs in the first six overs without losing a single wicket.
Vaibhav smashed 25 runs in one over
From the very outset, Suryavanshi appeared completely unstoppable. In a single over bowled by Pat Cummins, the young batsman smashed 25 runs—an onslaught that included three consecutive sixes. He raced to 36 runs off just 10 balls and soon completed yet another blistering half-century.
During this innings, Suryavanshi also broke Chris Gayle's long-standing record for the most sixes hit in a single IPL season. Gayle had smashed 59 sixes in 2012, but Suryavanshi surpassed that record by hitting his 61st six of the tournament.
Became youngest player in IPL history to score 600 runs in a single season
Thanks to this innings, he also became the youngest player in IPL history to score 600 runs in a single season. Most remarkably, he achieved this milestone while maintaining a strike rate of over 230.
The winning team of the Eliminator match will face Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 on May 29, while the losing team will be knocked out of the tournament.
