New Delhi: India is witnessing a dramatic shift in weather patterns. While several states remain under the grip of severe heatwaves, other regions are experiencing heavy rainfall and storms. A new Western Disturbance is expected to arrive soon, which could intensify weather activity across Northern India.

In the southern region, widespread rainfall has brought much-needed relief from the heat. Heavy rains lashed several parts of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, while significant rainfall was also recorded in Telangana, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Lakshadweep. Isolated hailstorms were also reported in parts of Marathwada and Uttarakhand.

Severe heat conditions persist across large parts of the country

Despite the rainfall in some areas, severe heat conditions persist across large parts of the country. Intense heatwave conditions continued in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, while scorching heat prevailed in Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh.

New Western Disturbance could trigger strong storms

IMD has said that the new Western Disturbance could trigger strong storms and dust storms across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Western Uttar Pradesh. Wind speeds in some areas could reach up to 80 kilometers per hour. Additionally, there is a possibility of isolated hailstorms in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

Slow Pace of the Monsoon

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon has advanced further into the remaining parts of the Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, the Bay of Bengal, and the Andaman Sea. Meteorologists state that conditions remain favorable for the monsoon to advance further over the next few days.

Drop in temps is also expected across Northwest India

A significant drop in temperatures is also expected across Northwest India between May 29 and May 30, offering substantial relief to the public following weeks of intense heat. Amidst these changing weather patterns, India's INSAT-3DS satellite has observed a massive cloud band extending approximately 2,500 kilometers over northern and central India. This indicates increasing atmospheric instability, suggesting a likelihood of storms, lightning, and scattered rainfall in the coming days.
