Suvendu Adhikari will be new CM of West Bengal; PM Modi, Amit Shah likely to attend swearing-in ceremony
Suvendu Adhikari will be the new Chief Minister of West Bengal. He was elected as the leader of the legislative party during a meeting held at a convention center in Kolkata. Following the meeting, Amit Shah announced his name.
Subsequently, Suvendu met with the Governor at the Lok Bhawan and staked his claim to form the government. Suvendu will take the oath as Chief Minister tomorrow morning at 11 AM at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata. Several prominent leaders of the NDA—including PM Modi and Amit Shah—are expected to attend the swearing-in ceremony.
Infiltration, violence, and cut money culture will end: Shah
Meanwhile, addressing the legislative party meeting, Shah stated that under Mamata Banerjee's rule, criminals had turned into politicians, leaving no scope for development. He pledged to put an end to infiltration, violence, and the "cut money" culture. Women's safety, he emphasized, would be a top priority.
Suvendu, 56, defeated CM Mamata Banerjee in the Bhabanipur constituency. He also secured a victory from Nandigram for the second consecutive time; it was from this very constituency that he had defeated Mamata in 2021. The BJP has won 207 seats in the Assembly elections.
