Uttarakhand: How Badrinath Will Become a 'Spiritual Hill Town'; Action Plan under Preparation
Dehradun: Alongside the ongoing reconstruction works at the world-renowned Shri Badrinath Dham in Uttarakhand, an action plan is now being formulated to develop the site into a 'Spiritual Hill Town.'
In this regard, officials from the Tourism Department presented detailed information regarding the ongoing works under the Badrinath Dham Master Plan to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at the Secretariat recently.
During the meeting, Tourism Secretary Dhiraj Garbyal delivered a presentation explaining that efforts to develop Badrinath into a 'Spiritual Smart Hill Town' are being undertaken in a multi-dimensional and phased manner. The objective of these initiatives is to provide pilgrims with a divine and organized experience, equipped with modern amenities.
Various sites are being developed
Garbyal stated that, under the Master Plan, various sites are being specially developed with careful consideration given to the region's beautification, cultural identity, and spiritual significance.
How Dev Darshani Point is being designed
He said that the 'Dev Darshani Point' is being designed in such a way that devotees can catch their first glimpse—or darshan—of Badrinath Dham from this vantage point in a grand and divine form.
Badrinarayan Chowk will be a prominent spiritual hub
Meanwhile, 'Badrinarayan Chowk' is being developed as a prominent spiritual and cultural hub, offering enhanced amenities and attractive public spaces for devotees.
Cultural heritage of the region will be showcased
Garbyal further explained that the cultural heritage of the region will be showcased at Badrinath Dham through murals depicting local art and religious themes on the ISBT wall. Additionally, attractive landscapes will be created through the 'Vasudha Vatika' artwork, which will seamlessly blend nature, spirituality, and the traditional art forms of Uttarakhand.
Prominence to symbols associated with Lord Vishnu
He added that the Master Plan also accords prominence to symbols associated with Lord Vishnu. This includes the creation of magnificent artworks—such as the Panchajanya Shankh (Conch), Kaumodaki Gada (Mace), Sudarshan Chakra (Divine Discus), and Vaikunth Dwar (Gateway to Vaikuntha)—which will not only signify religious importance but also serve as major centers of attraction for devotees.
Symbols from the eras of Ramayana and Mahabharata to be incorporated
The Tourism Secretary concluded by stating that, in addition to these initiatives, the 'Sheshnetra' artwork and structures based on the 'Panch Tattva' (Five Elements) theme will serve to embody spiritual energy and Indian philosophy. The plan incorporates symbols from the eras of the Ramayana and Mahabharata, drawing inspiration from Lord Rama and Lord Krishna.
Aarti ceremonies to become a divine and unforgettable experience
It was further explained that a development plan for the Diya Aarti (lamp worship) site has also been formulated to ensure that the Aarti ceremonies held there become a divine and unforgettable experience for devotees. Additionally, the development of streetscapes across the entire precinct has been proposed; this initiative entails the execution of works related to pedestrian pathways, lighting systems, seating amenities, signage, and beautification, utilizing modern and eco-friendly methods.
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that all necessary provisions are incorporated into this master plan to further enhance the grandeur and allure of the Dham (pilgrimage site). Furthermore, he emphasized that special attention must be paid to preserving local culture and protecting the environment.
CM stated that through the execution of these projects, the spiritual atmosphere in Badrinath will not only be strengthened but tourism will also be given a new direction. Upon its completion, this project is set to establish the site as an exemplary destination—one that showcases a harmonious blend of faith, modernity, and nature.
Present on this occasion were Secretary Shailesh Bagoli, Additional Secretary Banshidhar Tiwari, Joint Secretary Anil Joshi, and other concerned officials.
