Rare Skimmer Bird Recorded in Bhopal's Kaliasot and Bhadbhada Dam Areas: A Significant Achievement in Biodiversity Conservation
Bhopal: A significant achievement in the field of biodiversity conservation has been recorded within the natural reservoirs and wetlands of Bhopal. The regular sighting of the rare Skimmer bird (Indian Skimmer) in the Kaliasot and Bhadbhada areas of Bhopal over the past few months serves as an extremely encouraging sign. Prior to this, the presence of this bird had not been recorded in the Bhopal region.
The Skimmer is a sensitive aquatic bird that inhabits only those areas characterized by clean water, a tranquil environment, and suitable riparian habitats. Its appearance in Bhopal stands as proof that a favorable habitat for birds has successfully developed in the Kaliasot and Bhadbhada regions.
This achievement is the positive outcome of the sustained conservation efforts undertaken by the Forest Department, Madhya Pradesh—specifically regarding the preservation of reservoirs and the enhancement of green cover—combined with the cooperation of local citizens and nature enthusiasts. The awareness and active participation demonstrated by the residents of Bhopal toward environmental conservation have also played a pivotal role in this success.
According to an official release, the Forest Department will continue to make ceaseless efforts in the future toward wetland conservation, the protection of avian habitats, and the enhancement of biodiversity, thereby enabling Bhopal to further solidify its identity as a "Nature and Bird-Friendly City."
