West Bengal: PA to BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari shot dead in Kolkata
Tension erupted in West Bengal’s Madhyamgram near Kolkata after unidentified bike-borne assailants allegedly opened fire targeting Chandranath Rath, PA of BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. Rath was reportedly inside a black Scorpio when the firing took place.
Police teams from Madhyamgram and Airport Police Stations rushed to the spot after the shooting. The incident has triggered fresh political heat in Bengal, with investigations currently underway. TMC workers have been accused of Rath's murder. The Trinamool's Rathin Ghosh had won from Madhyamgram.
Meanwhile, another individual who was present with him and sustained a gunshot wound during the incident has been admitted to a nursing home. The injured person is currently undergoing treatment at Vibacity Nursing Home, located at the Madhyamgram crossing.
The police have launched a manhunt for the killer. Furthermore, a palpable atmosphere of tension has prevailed across the entire locality since the incident occurred.
Violence erupted in Bengal following the declaration of election results on May 4. Four people have been killed over the past 24 hours; among the victims are two workers each from the BJP and the TMC.
On Tuesday night, a mob in Kolkata's New Market area demolished a TMC party office using a bulldozer. The rioters also caused damage to nearby shops.
Meanwhile, in the Bamangheri area of Sandeshkhali in the North 24 Parganas district, police and central forces on patrol were attacked on Tuesday night. The rioters opened fire, leaving five security personnel injured.
