West Bengal Assembly Election 2026: EC cancels voting for Falta seat, re-polling on this day

The Election Commission has cancelled voting for the Falta seat in West Bengal. Reports of EVM malfunctions and violence had emerged from this constituency during the second phase of voting on April 29.

The EC has directed that re-polling be conducted at all 285 polling booths on May 21. The results are scheduled to be declared on May 24. Notably, at one of the booths within this assembly constituency, tape was found affixed over the BJP button on an EVM.

Earlier, on Saturday, re-polling was held at 11 booths in Magrahat West and 4 booths in Diamond Harbour, West Bengal. A voter turnout of approximately 90% was recorded across the total of 15 booths spanning both assembly constituencies.

It is reported that the police have registered an FIR against Panchayat Pradhan Israfil Chowkidar in connection with a case involving alleged threats and intimidation in Hasimnagar, Falta. So far, three TMC workers have also been arrested in connection with this case.

Clashes broke out between TMC and BJP workers in South 24 Parganas. Security forces intervened to bring the situation under control and pacify both sides. In Falta, voters alleged that they had been attacked by TMC workers.
