West Bengal: Stone-Pelting in Kolkata in Protest against Bulldozer Action, Several Cops Hurt
An incident of stone-pelting at the police has been reported in Kolkata. This information was provided by Ashesh Biswas, the Additional ACP of Kolkata.
A group of protesters—who were opposing an ongoing bulldozer drive aimed at removing alleged illegal encroachments—pelted stones at police personnel.
The demonstrators were protesting the recent bulldozer action in the city’s Tiljala area, where alleged illegal constructions were demolished on the state government’s orders following a factory fire that killed two people earlier this week.
Several police personnel sustained injuries in this incident, while vehicles parked along the roadside were vandalized. These included vehicles belonging to the central forces.
ACP Biswas said, "A group of people had gathered and attempted to block the road. This assembly was unlawful. When the police tried to disperse them, some stone-pelting occurred against the police force." Three police personnel were also injured in this incident.
The ACP remarked, "Three of our colleagues have been injured. Action has been initiated by the police, and we will pursue further legal action subsequently. We will spare no one."
The incident took place in the Park Circus area of West Bengal. Following the stone-pelting incident, a heavy contingent of police and central forces has been deployed in the area to maintain law and order, and the police conducted a flag march.
