23 political parties will attend 'INDIA' alliance meeting on June 8, tells Cong; will TMC attend? what Aam Aadmi Party said?
A meeting of the opposition 'INDIA' alliance is scheduled to take place in Delhi on Monday, June 8. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh announced on X that 23 political parties would participate in the meeting.
He wrote on X, "23 political parties have confirmed their participation in the 'INDIA' alliance meeting scheduled for Monday, June 8, 2026, at 12 PM at the Constitution Club in New Delhi. Some parties have expressed their inability to attend this particular meeting due to their own reasons."
Mamata reaches Delhi
The All India Trinamool Congress signalled strong support for the meeting, with party chief Mamata Banerjee leaving for Delhi on Sunday to attend the gathering.
TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien responded to Ramesh's post by saying: “Meeting with a common purpose and clear intent. INDIA united. Many parties look forward to meeting in the spirit of camaraderie.”
AAP will not participate
However, the Aam Aadmi Party will not participate in this meeting.
When Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh was asked about the meeting, he said, "The Aam Aadmi Party is not part of the 'INDIA' alliance; therefore, it is not appropriate for me to comment on it. They will explain what strategy they formulate and how they intend to move forward."
Meanwhile, AAP leader Priyanka Kakkar stated, "Whatever alliance the Congress forms, its objective is to strengthen itself, not to strengthen the country. We saw recently how they stood against the youth."
She added, "How can anyone stand with a party that stands against the country's youth? We stand with the youth of the nation. You saw what happened during the Tamil Nadu assembly elections—it didn't take them even a day to stab their ally in the back."
Priyanka Kakkar remarked that the Congress has failed to challenge the BJP effectively, and there is no question of forming an alliance with them.
What issues will be on agenda
While the formal agenda of the meeting has not been announced, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said opposition parties remain united in their opposition to certain issues. He stressed that they continued to oppose the BJP-led government.
Ramesh accused the Centre of “snatching away the right to vote for millions of Indians”, “assaulting the Constitution daily”, targeting opposition leaders through investigative agencies, hurting livelihoods, fuelling inflation and compromising national interests through its foreign policy.
