3 women, child run over by train in Morena, MP: had slighted Udaipur Intercity Express following fire rumor
Four people, including a mother and her son, died in a train accident in the Morena district of Madhya Pradesh. Panic ensued among passengers on the Udaipur Intercity Express following rumors that a mobile phone explosion had caused a fire. Amidst this chaos, four passengers were struck by another passing train. The deceased include three women and one child.
According to reports, the victims have been identified as Kanchan Singh (25, wife of Mohit Singh) from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh; Shakuntala Singh (60, wife of Bhura Singh) from Runkata; and Afreen (35, wife of Nadeem) and Asad (4, son of Nadeem Khan) from Agra. Afreen and Asad were mother and son.
According to railway sources, the incident occurred on the Hetampur-Dholpur rail section of the Jhansi Division when the Khajuraho-Udaipur Intercity Express (Train No. 19665) came to a halt following the pulling of the alarm chain. Amidst this, a rumor spread that a fire had broken out on the train, causing some passengers to panic and disembark.
Passengers failed to notice the speeding Patalkot Express
Eyewitnesses reported that the passengers failed to notice the speeding Firozpur-Seoni Patalkot Express (Train No. 20424) approaching on the adjacent track, and four passengers were struck by it. Three women and a child died on the spot.
Chaos ensued at the scene following the accident. Officials from the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), and local administration arrived at the site. Relief and rescue operations were initiated, and the bodies were sent for post-mortem examinations.
Viral video raises concerns
Following the accident, a video of the incident is rapidly going viral on social media. The footage shows the train coming to a halt, passengers stepping onto the tracks, and another train passing by. While such videos highlight the gravity of the incident, they also serve as a reminder of how rumors and panic can lead to a major tragedy.
