Bhopal: FIR registered against Punjab Kings IPL batsman Shashank Singh and father retired IPS Shailesh Singh for assaulting cook
Bhopal: An FIR has been registered in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, against Punjab Kings IPL team batsman Shashank Singh and his father, retired Special DG (IPS) Shailesh Singh, for allegedly assaulting and verbally abusing a cook.
The victim, Vipendra Singh Tomar, alleged that he was verbally abused because the food he prepared was not to their liking. When he expressed a desire to quit, his mobile phone was snatched away, he was forced to continue working, and was subsequently assaulted by Shailesh Singh, Shashank, and their driver.
Youth released a video
Following the incident, the youth released a video in which he is seen crying. Acting on this, the Ratibad police station in Bhopal registered an FIR on Monday and initiated an investigation.
Vipendra Singh Tomar (31), a resident of Rewa, stated that he was called to Bhopal through an acquaintance, Mohit Singh Sengar. He was told he would be working as a cook for Shailesh Singh and would later be assisted in securing a government job. Terms were agreed upon for a monthly salary of Rs 15,000, along with accommodation and meals, at the residence in Neelbad.
Victim was made to work continuously
According to the victim, he was made to work continuously just hours after starting. The previous cook was also being subjected to verbal abuse. Witnessing this, he spoke of quitting. It is alleged that he was then asked, "If you aren't going to work, why did you come here? Did you come to murder me?" Subsequently, his mobile phone was confiscated, and he was forced to keep working.
Investigation into the matter is ongoing: Police
According to the Ratibad police, statements from the complainant and a witness were recorded after the complaint was received. Based on the available facts, a case has been registered against Shailesh Singh, Shashank Singh, and an employee under Sections 296(b), 115(2), and 3(5) of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita). The police state that the investigation into the matter is ongoing.
Another youth had also lodged complaint
Prior to this, on May 5, 2026, Rajiv Vishwakarma—a resident of Ganjbasoda in Vidisha—had also lodged a complaint with DGP Kailash Makwana against former Special DG Shailesh Singh. The youth alleged that while employed there, he was held captive in the house, assaulted, and had his mobile phone and bag forcibly taken away.
