Bihar: Panic in Patna as Shots Fired Outside Khan Sir's Coaching Institute; Security Guard Injured; Director of Gyan Bindu Coaching among 3 Held; What Khan Sir Told?
Tension gripped the Musallahpur area of Patna when several rounds of gunfire were allegedly fired near the coaching institute of famous educator and YouTuber, Khan Sir. The incident occurred near one of the city's busiest coaching hubs, leaving a security guard injured and sparking panic among students and local residents.
IThe police have taken significant action by arresting three individuals, including Roshan Anand, the Director of Gyan Bindu Coaching. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter and are also examining the roles of other individuals linked to the incident. Following this entire sequence of events, a new debate has emerged regarding the functioning and competitive landscape of coaching institutes in Bihar.
According to reports, a clash broke out between students from Khan Classes and Gyan Bindu Coaching. The dispute escalated to such an extent that students and anti-social elements gathered from both sides began pelting stones at one another.
During the incident, several rounds of gunfire were also exchanged, triggering chaos and panic in the area. Local shopkeepers and passersby fled to save their lives. Meanwhile, the rioters also tore down the banner of Khan Classes.
Rivalry between two coaching institutes
Tension has prevailed in the area since the incident. An internal rivalry had been brewing between the two coaching institutes for quite some time. Following the incident, Patna's SSP, SP, and several police teams arrived at the scene.
Kadamtuan Station House Officer (SHO) Janmejay Kumar stated that a written complaint submitted by Khan Coaching alleged that the opposing party had opened fire. Meanwhile, the Gyan Bindu Coaching faction has also accused members of Khan Classes of firing shots. The police are investigating the matter.
According to police officials, the shooting took place near Khan Sir's campus, falling under the jurisdiction of the Musallahpur police station. As news of the incident spread, a large crowd gathered in the area, while students and shopkeepers fled to safety to save their lives.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya Kumar Sharma stated that CCTV footage from the area has been procured and is currently being examined. He confirmed that the injured security guard has been admitted to a hospital, and efforts are underway to identify and interrogate those involved in the incident.
The SSP remarked, "At first glance, this matter appears to be linked to a personal rivalry, but the investigation is still ongoing."
Local sources claimed that approximately 8 to 10 rounds of gunfire were fired outside the coaching institute.
What Khan Sir said?
Reacting to the incident, Khan Sir alleged that certain anti-social elements had been issuing threats to his institute for some time. He said that the attack occurred shortly after the declaration of examination results, a time when the institute was busy organizing felicitation ceremonies for successful students.
Khan Sir stated, "We were engrossed in celebrating with our students when some anti-social elements arrived at the scene and threatened to blow up the coaching institute within two days. They brutally assaulted one of our security guards, who subsequently had to be hospitalized."
He further claimed that the attackers vandalized parts of the institute and attempted to intimidate the staff members. "They Want the Institute Shut Down"
Speaking about the potential motives behind the attack, Khan Sir alleged that certain people were displeased with his model of providing education to students at affordable rates.
He stated, "They repeatedly ask the same question: why do you teach for such low fees? Some people do not want quality education to be available at affordable rates. Poor students, too, have every right to pursue their studies and build their future."
According to Khan Sir, the injured security guard has identified some of the accused, whom he claims are affiliated with another coaching institute located nearby. He alleged that they were attempting to forcibly shut down his coaching center.
Police Investigation Underway
Police officials have launched a comprehensive investigation and are currently examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area. Officials state that all possible angles are being explored, and action will be taken against anyone found guilty.
This incident has heightened concerns, as the area surrounding Khan Sir's institute is considered one of Patna's major educational hubs, visited daily by thousands of students preparing for competitive examinations. The shooting incident has created an atmosphere of fear among both students and local residents.
Not the First Attack
This is not the first time Khan Sir's institute has come under attack. In May 2019, unidentified assailants allegedly hurled two crude bombs outside the 'Khan GS Research Center' located at Musallahpur Haat. The explosion caused damage to a section of the building and a scooter parked nearby. Fortunately, there were no reports of any casualties in that incident.
Now that another incident of violence has occurred near the institute, questions regarding the safety and security of students and educational institutions in the area have once again come to the fore. The police have stated that the investigation is progressing, and further details are expected to emerge soon.
