The Southwest Monsoon-2026 arrived in Kerala on Thursday. It is expected to advance to Goa, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu over the next 2–3 days. The monsoon is also likely to progress further into the northeastern states and some additional parts of the Bay of Bengal.

According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka over the next seven days. Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh witnessed rain accompanied by thunderstorms on Thursday.

IMD has said conditions are favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance into parts of Northeast India within the next two to three days, bringing much-awaited rainfall to the region and offering relief to farmers preparing for the kharif season.

The weather office issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across the northeastern states over the next five to six days, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds in several areas.

Strong winds also swept across the Delhi-NCR region. In several places, trees fell onto vehicles. At Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, 11 flights had to be diverted due to adverse weather conditions.

Pre-monsoon activity intensifies in Madhya Pradesh

Pre-monsoon activity has intensified in Madhya Pradesh. On Thursday evening, the capital city of Bhopal witnessed a storm accompanied by heavy rainfall, with wind speeds reaching approximately 70 kilometers per hour. The storm had its most significant impact on the power infrastructure.

Due to the storm, approximately 300 power supply networks have been fully or partially disrupted, affecting numerous localities. Power lines were damaged in several parts of the city leading to power failure in many parts of the city for hours.

According to officials from the power utility company, trees and branches fell onto power lines at several locations, resulting in supply disruptions. 

Cloudburst in J&K

A cloudburst occurred on Thursday in the Batohi area of ​​the Reasi district in Jammu and Kashmir. Following this, flood-like conditions emerged in the region. Water and debris inundated residential areas, causing damage to several houses.

The administration and rescue teams have reached the site. Residents living near the hilly slopes have been advised to remain vigilant. Currently, there are no reports of any injuries or casualties.
