First batch of Kailash Manasarovar Yatra 2026 flagged off; pilgrims will travel via Nathu La route to the holy abode of Lord Shiva

Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita [MoS (PM)], presided over the flagging-off ceremony of the inaugural batch of pilgrims undertaking the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra (KMY) 2026 on 12 June 2026 at Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan in New Delhi. The first batch will be travelling via Nathu La route, and will commence their onward journey from Delhi on 15th June 2026.

MoS (PM) congratulated the yatris on their selection, and informed them that accommodation for yatris will be provided at new acclimatization centre(s) recently inaugurated (virtually) by Prime Minister Modi. MoS (PM) acknowledged the ceaseless efforts of various Government Ministries, Departments, State Governments of Uttarakhand, Sikkim and Uttar Pradesh, who have been striving to provide an enriching and fulfilling experience to our citizens who undertake this pilgrimage.\

Spiritual and cultural significance

The Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is one of the most significant pilgrimages in Hinduism. Kailash Mansarovar is believed to be a place of spiritual and cultural significance. According to Hindu scriptures, Kailash Parvat is a gigantic mountain and the holy abode of Lord Shiva, where he resides with Maa Parvati and other Shiva-ganas.

The Kailash Mansarovar region has a distinctive scenic splendour, a rich cultural legacy, and an ethereal ambience. The Kailash Yatra can help us overcome our shortcomings and cleanse us of our sins.
