Vidisha: Under the direction and constant supervision of Collector Anshul Gupta, seven at-risk children were rescued on Friday from situations involving begging and rag-picking, and were provided with safe care and protection.

A team from the Women and Child Development Department conducted a drive in the bus stand area, identified four children engaged in begging, and immediately rescued them.

Meanwhile, the Collector spotted three children picking up trash and plastic waste in the Dandapura area. He immediately informed the District Programme Officer, Vinita Lodha.

Upon receiving the information, the District Programme Officer took prompt action, dispatched a team to the site, and ensured the safe rescue of these three children as well. Thus, a total of seven children were taken into protective custody and presented before the Child Welfare Committee.

The Committee Chairperson, Rambabu Prajapati, along with members Sunita Dangi, Lakshmi Sharma, Chandrabhan Singh Baghel, and Diwan Singh Meena, interacted warmly with the children, boosted their morale, and apprised them of the importance of education and a secure life.

Keeping the best interests of the children in mind, the Child Welfare Committee issued directives to provide safe shelter for three children at the Shishu Grih (Children's Home) in Vidisha, three at the One Stop Centre in Vidisha, and one at Bal Niketan in Bhopal.

This campaign, run by the Women and Child Development Department, is proving significant in bringing such children from the district into the mainstream. The department aims to provide every child with education, safety, protection, and a life of dignity.

The department has also appealed to citizens to immediately report instances of children found begging, engaged in child labor, or in other hazardous situations to the Child Helpline (1098) or the concerned department, so that timely protection and rehabilitation can be ensured.

"Today's rescue operation is not merely an act of saving seven children, but a significant step towards a safe, educated, and dignified future for them."
