MP: How Will Chhatarpur's Wooden Furniture Industry Gain National Recognition? MoU Signed Between MSME and ONDC
Bhopal/Chhatarpur: Following key discussions held during the Madhya Pradesh "One District-One Product" Progress Conference 2026, Chhatarpur's renowned wooden furniture industry is now poised to gain greater recognition and improved market access. Organized by the MSME Department, the primary objective of this conference was to assist local furniture manufacturers in expanding their reach through modern designs, branding, e-commerce platforms, and export opportunities.
A major highlight of the event was the signing of an MoU between the Madhya Pradesh MSME Department and ONDC (Open Network for Digital Commerce). This agreement is expected to facilitate MSMEs and start-ups across the state in connecting with online marketplaces and reaching customers nationwide.
Chhatarpur furniture—which has already been granted a GI (Geographical Indication) tag by the Government of India—is celebrated for its unique craftsmanship and traditional wood carving work. Experts from Amazon India, Pepperfry, Walmart Vriddhi, ONDC, the Buying Agents Association, and the Indian Institute of Packaging interacted with local entrepreneurs, offering practical advice on online sales, exports, packaging, and market trends.
Chhatarpur Furniture Association to partner with Amazon India
In a positive development, the Chhatarpur Furniture Association expressed its interest in partnering with Amazon India to enhance market access and assist local artisans with modern designs. The MSME Department provided assurances that all possible assistance would be extended once a formal proposal is submitted.
Addressing the gathering, local MLA Lalita Yadav emphasized the need for a dedicated furniture cluster in Chhatarpur to strengthen the industry and generate increased employment opportunities. The conference witnessed the participation of over 200 furniture entrepreneurs, artisans, and representatives from various organizations, reflecting the growing optimism regarding the future of this sector.
