Southwest Monsoon-2026 advancing rapidly, heavy rainfall forecast for Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Northeast India, check IMD alerts
The Southwest Monsoon-2026 is advancing rapidly across the country. According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon had reached 12 states by Sunday. It has covered the entirety of Kerala, Karnataka, Manipur, Nagaland, and Mizoram.
This year, the monsoon arrived in Kerala with a three-day delay, reaching on June 4. Within four days, it covered 12 states. On Sunday, the monsoon entered the northeastern states of Tripura, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Nagaland.
IMD alert
IMS has issued alert of heavy rainfall for Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Northeast India over the next seven days, with precipitation expected to range between 7 mm and 20 mm. Very heavy rainfall is particularly likely in Karnataka between June 8 and June 10.
Earlier, on Saturday, it had reached Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mizoram, and Manipur.
Pre-monsoon rains in Madhya Pradesh, UP, and Rajasthan
Pre-monsoon rains are occurring in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan witnessed rain accompanied by hailstorms on Sunday. Meanwhile, on the Indore-Khandwa highway in Madhya Pradesh, an auto-rickshaw overturned due to a storm.
Monsoon is likely to advance across Chhattisgarh and Odisha
According to the Meteorological Department, the monsoon is likely to advance without interruption across Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha over the next 3–4 days.
At Delhi Airport, three narrow-body Air India aircraft were damaged following a collision with ground support equipment during a severe storm and heavy rain. All three aircraft have been taken out of service following the incident.
The weather in Delhi-NCR has shifted since Monday, with temperatures set to rise again. Temperatures are expected to reach 45°C in the coming days. According to the Meteorological Department, heatwave-like conditions could develop next week.
