After arriving in Kerala with a three-day delay, the monsoon has picked up pace. On Saturday, it reached Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Mizoram, and Manipur; prior to this, it had entered Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Goa on Friday. The monsoon had reached Kerala on June 4.

According to the IMD, the monsoon is likely to reach all the northeastern states and parts of West Bengal over the next three days. It is expected to reach Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha within the next 10 days.

Monsoon’s progress may remain slow in MP, Chhattisgarh

GP Sharma, an expert at Skymet Weather, notes that the monsoon's progress may remain slow in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Bengal for the time being, as there is no strong weather system active in the Bay of Bengal to drive its advance.

A spell of storms and rain continues in Rajasthan. Hailstorms occurred in Bikaner on Saturday. In Shridungargarh, the tin roof of a warehouse was blown away, while a tent was blown off in Kotputli-Behror. Two people died due to lightning strikes in Bihar.

Kerala set to witness intense monsoon activity

Meanwhile, Kerala is set to witness intense monsoon activity over the next few days.

According to the latest weather bulletin, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall ranging between 7 cm and 20 cm is very likely across Kerala during the next seven days. The state has already recorded very heavy rainfall of 12 cm to 20 cm at isolated locations, highlighting the growing intensity of the monsoon. The strengthening monsoon flow is expected to keep Kerala under the influence of persistent rain-bearing systems.

The forecast of extremely heavy rainfall has raised concerns over the possibility of localised flooding, waterlogging in urban areas, rising river levels and landslides in vulnerable hilly regions, particularly in districts prone to monsoon-related disasters.

While the monsoon has brought much-needed rainfall to the state, the latest forecast indicates that Kerala could experience one of the most active phases of the season during the coming days.
