The political battle for Madhya Pradesh's crucial Datia Assembly seat has reached a decisive juncture. Congress has announced former MLA Ghanshyam Singh as its candidate, setting the stage for a direct face-off against the BJP's Ashutosh Tiwari. Already considered a high-profile contest, this by-election has now turned into a battle of prestige for both parties, intensifying political activity across the state.
The BJP's decision to field Ashutosh Tiwari instead of former Home Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra sparked visible resentment among party workers. Meanwhile, the BJP has dismissed suggestions that the ticket dispute would impact its electoral prospects. Deputy CM Jagdish Deora reiterated that candidate selection is the party's prerogative and that every leader and worker respects organizational decisions. Describing Dr. Narottam Mishra as a senior and respected leader, Devda stated that any grievances would be resolved internally. He expressed confidence that the entire BJP machinery would rally in support of Ashutosh Tiwari.
BJP's internal rifts exposed: Cong
However, Congress has intensified its offensive. State Congress President Jitu Patwari and Leader of the Opposition Umang Singhar have accused the BJP of exposing its internal rifts. Singhar alleged that the party has politically sidelined Dr. Mishra and claimed that the people of Datia would respond to this through their votes. He stated that the by-election has laid bare the BJP's "tactics, character, and face" before the public, adding that voters prioritize development over political arrogance and internal infighting.
Both parties view this by-election as a test of their political credibility; consequently, the campaign is expected to intensify in the coming weeks.
