Bhopal: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has pioneered the innovative practice of holding Cabinet meetings across different regions of Madhya Pradesh, extending governance beyond the State Secretariat in Bhopal and bringing decision-making closer to the people.

Policy decisions concerning public welfare are now being taken not only at the Mantralaya but also in remote parts of the State, bringing the government closer to the people. As part of this initiative, the Cabinet meeting is being held on Sunday, July 19, at the archaeological heritage site of Jagdishpur village, near Bhopal.

The meeting also provides an opportunity to explore and appreciate the State's rich archaeological heritage. Such initiatives enhance public awareness of heritage sites, increase their historical significance, and generate greater visitor interest, thereby contributing to tourism promotion.

Heritage locations such as Maheshwar, Singrampur and Rajwada in Indore, where Cabinet meetings have previously been held, have witnessed increased public curiosity and recognition.

Seven Destination Cabinet Meetings Held in Two-and-a-Half Years

Under the leadership of CM Dr. Mohan Yadav, Madhya Pradesh has, over the past two and a half years, pioneered the concept of holding Cabinet meetings outside the State capital. In addition to the regular Cabinet meetings in Bhopal, seven Destination Cabinet Meetings have been organised in different districts of the State.

This innovative governance model has been widely appreciated by the public. Besides Bhopal, Cabinet meetings have been held in Jabalpur, Damoh, Khargone, Narmadapuram, Chhatarpur and Barwani districts. These meetings, including the one held at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Khajuraho, have resulted in several landmark decisions for public welfare and inclusive development.

Cabinet Meetings to Be Held Across Every Region of the State

CM Mohan Yadav has also decided that, in addition to the regular Cabinet, the Agriculture Cabinet will be convened in different regions of Madhya Pradesh. A Cabinet meeting has also been proposed in Ujjain, the sacred city of Baba Mahakal. The initiative has strengthened coordination between public representatives and senior officials across the State.

While key public welfare decisions were earlier taken primarily in the State capital, this innovation has enabled important policy decisions to be made even from villages and smaller towns, reinforcing the spirit of decentralised governance.

Paying Tribute to Icons of Valour, Good Governance and Public Service

The selection of venues for Destination Cabinet Meetings has been guided by their association with distinguished personalities who symbolise courage, good governance, public welfare and selfless service.

Accordingly, meetings have been held at Singrampur in Damoh district, associated with the valour of Rani Durgavati; Maheshwar in Khargone district and Rajwada in Indore, associated with Lokmata Devi Ahilyabai Holkar; Pachmarhi in Narmadapuram district, in honour of the popular tribal ruler Raja Bhabhoot Singh; Khajuraho in Chhatarpur district; and Nagalwadi in the tribal-dominated Barwani district, a prominent centre of tribal culture.

Initiative Began in the Mahakaushal Region

Soon after assuming office as Chief Minister, Dr. Yadav initiated the practice of organising Cabinet meetings at places associated with eminent personalities whose contributions deserve wider public recognition. The first such meeting was held on January 3, 2024, in Jabalpur, commemorating the courage and sacrifice of Rani Durgavati. Since then, Destination Cabinet Meetings have also been organised at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Khajuraho and the renowned hill station of Pachmarhi, among other locations.
