Glasgow Commonwealth Games 2026: Gulveer Singh Scripts History; First Indian to Win Silver in 10,000m Race
India's star runner Gulveer Singh scripted history on Tuesday at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.
He became the first Indian to win a medal in the men's 10,000m event at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, securing the silver medal.
The 27-year-old Gulveer Singh finished in second place with a time of 27 minutes 49.78 seconds.
Australia's Kai Robinson won the gold medal in this event, while David Mularkey claimed the bronze.
This achievement was particularly significant because runners from Kenya and Uganda—traditionally considered powerhouses in long-distance running—failed to make it to the podium this time.
Racing in heavy rain and on a waterlogged track, Gulveer avoided an early aggressive approach and stayed with the leading pack through most of the event. The Indian runner focused on conserving energy while remaining in medal contention.
Gulveer Singh is regarded as India's best long-distance runner, and his performance in Glasgow stands as one of the greatest achievements of his career.
This was India's second medal on the sixth day of the 2026 Commonwealth Games; Harjinder Kaur had previously finished second in the women's 69kg weightlifting category.
With this, India's total medal count has reached 12.
