Golden chapter begins in India-Indonesia partnership; agreements signed across multiple sectors: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that India and Indonesia have signed agreements to enhance cooperation in sectors such as defense, security, critical minerals, the maritime domain, technology, and agriculture, marking the beginning of a golden chapter in their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Speaking in a joint press statement following bilateral talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on Tuesday—during his three-day visit to the country—Modi remarked that a golden chapter in the India-Indonesia partnership is commencing today. He noted that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2018 is now reaching new heights.
He said, "We are taking significant strides in every sector—development, security, technology, culture, and education. I am confident that a golden chapter of the India-Indonesia partnership will begin today."
The Prime Minister stated that the growing trust between the two nations is strengthening cooperation in defense, security, and the maritime sector.
He mentioned that the two countries have agreed today to enhance defense exchanges, disaster management, and industrial cooperation. Furthermore, he noted that the agreements signed today would make India's high-quality, affordable medicines more easily accessible to the citizens of Indonesia.
Highlighting the importance of technology and robust supply chains in the current global context, PM Modi stated that the two nations have signed a crucial agreement to strengthen supply chains for critical minerals and steel. He added that a new partnership regarding steel and rare-earth magnets is being forged between companies from both countries.
PM Modi expressed satisfaction that India's digital payment system, UPI, is set to be integrated with Indonesia's payment system.
He stated that this move would facilitate ease of doing business and benefit the tourism sector. He also announced that both countries would celebrate the centenary of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore's historic visit to Indonesia with great enthusiasm. India and Indonesia will observe this centenary year as the "Tagore and Dewantara Cultural and Educational Diplomacy Year."
Referring to the ongoing conflicts in certain parts of the world, PM Modi stated that in this era of global turmoil, India believes the role of dialogue and diplomacy has become more critical than ever.
He added that regarding the issue of Palestine, we support the 'two-state' solution and long-term peace.
Earlier, PM Narendra Modi was accorded a grand ceremonial welcome at Istana Merdeka, the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Indonesia.
