Seed-to-Tree Initiative Set to Soar to New Heights: Over Two Lakh Seed Balls to be Scattered in MP's Narmadapuram
Narmadapuram: Taking a significant step towards environmental conservation, the Narmadapuram district administration is launching a massive green drive under the 'Navankur Abhiyan'. As part of this initiative, more than 2,00,000 seed balls will be scattered simultaneously across all Janpad Panchayats, Tehsils, and urban local bodies. The aim is to leverage the monsoon season to promote the natural growth of indigenous flora and expand the green cover within the district.
Collector Somesh Mishra will inaugurate the campaign by planting saplings and scattering seed balls in Hasalpur village, Narmadapuram Janpad Panchayat. He has instructed all Sub-Divisional Officers to ensure the campaign is executed effectively with active public participation and transformed into a mass movement for environmental conservation.
Launched on World Environment Day, this campaign involves a collaborative effort among several departments—including Panchayat and Rural Development, Urban Bodies, Madhya Pradesh Jan Abhiyan Parishad, Horticulture and Food Processing, Higher Education, and Prison Administration—all of which have worked together to prepare the seed balls.
What is seed ball technique
The seed ball technique involves coating seeds of indigenous species—such as Neem, Jamun, Arjun, Karanj, Amaltas, Gulmohar, Sheesham, Tamarind, and Bamboo—with a mixture of soil and organic manure. This protective layer safeguards the seeds until rainfall dissolves it, creating optimal conditions for germination and providing nature with an initial boost to restore greenery in the region's forests.
