After a brief lull, the SW monsoon 2026 made a vigorous comeback in Indore on Wednesday evening. While the city received much-needed rainfall, the downpour also led to waterlogging in several areas. The day had begun with clear skies, and residents were grappling with heat and humidity; however, by evening, dark clouds gathered, bringing heavy rain to various parts of the city.

The rainfall caused water to enter shops in Ward No. 80 and submerged several roads, disrupting traffic and causing inconvenience to commuters. In a worrying incident, a Thar SUV carrying a family skidded and fell into a roadside drain on the stretch between Chandan Nagar Police Station and Lakdi Peetha. Fortunately, locals rushed to the scene and safely rescued everyone inside the vehicle.

More rainfall is expected: IMD

According to IMD, more rainfall is expected in the city over the coming days due to the reactivation of the monsoon.

However, the month of June ended with below-normal rainfall. Indore recorded approximately 4.5 inches of rain—slightly less than the average of 5 inches—as the final week of the month saw only sporadic drizzles and light showers rather than sustained rainfall.

July and August are the peak monsoon months; consequently, weather experts anticipate a significant pick-up in rainfall activity, as roughly half of the season's total rainfall is typically recorded during this period.
