Uttarakhand CM Dhami Flags Off Special Train for Somnath Pilgrimage; 700 devotees set out on a six-day journey of faith and pride
Dehradun: Amidst celebrations of faith, heritage, and national pride, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged off a special pilgrimage train bound for Veraval, Gujarat, from Harrawala Railway Station in Haridwar on Monday for the 'Somnath Swabhiman Parv'. Approximately 700 pilgrims from across the state embarked on a six-day journey to the sacred Somnath Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas.
The group comprises women from self-help groups, beneficiaries of government welfare schemes, members of the saint community, and people from various walks of life. Wishing the travelers a safe and pleasant journey, Dhami stated that this pilgrimage is far more than just a religious trip—it is an opportunity to reconnect with India's rich civilizational heritage, Sanatan traditions, and cultural consciousness.
A symbol of India's resilience
Describing Somnath as a symbol of India's resilience, the Chief Minister said that despite facing repeated attacks and destruction over centuries, the temple has remained steadfast, standing as a testament to the nation's unwavering faith and determination. "Somnath teaches us that India emerges stronger after every challenge," he said.
A cultural resurgence
Dhami remarked that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is witnessing a cultural resurgence. He mentioned the renovation and development of major pilgrimage sites such as Ayodhya, Kedarnath, Kashi Vishwanath, Mahakal, and Badrinath. He stated that these temples are not merely places of worship but also pillars of India's cultural and spiritual identity.
Spiritual capital of the world
Highlighting Uttarakhand's initiatives, the Chief Minister said the state is working to establish itself as the spiritual capital of the world through projects such as the Haridwar-Rishikesh Corridor, the Sharda Corridor, and the rejuvenation of the Yamuna pilgrimage site at Haripur Kalsi. He also mentioned the establishment of a 'Centre for Hindu Studies' at Doon University to promote research on Indian philosophy and culture.
Ambassadors of 'Devbhoomi Uttarakhand'
Calling upon pilgrims to act as ambassadors of 'Devbhoomi Uttarakhand,' Dhami urged them to uphold the values of hospitality, discipline, and respect wherever they go. He said, "Your conduct will reflect the spirit and traditions of Uttarakhand." He expressed confidence that this pilgrimage would further strengthen both spiritual connection and national pride.
