Air India's Phuket-Delhi flight encounters turbulence, 12 injured
Air India flight AI2379, en route from Phuket to Delhi, encountered turbulence on Tuesday. Due to severe jolts, the aircraft shook and suddenly lost altitude. However, the pilot managed the situation and landed the flight safely at Delhi Airport.
Sources revealed that 12 people on board—including passengers and crew members—were injured in the incident. The injured have been sent to the medical center at Delhi Airport for examination and treatment.
Air India had earlier stated that all passengers and crew were safe, with no reports of serious injuries. The incident is being investigated. Images of the aircraft following the turbulence have surfaced, showing cracks in the ceiling panels.
The Air India medical support team received the 134 passengers onboard the Airbus A320 on arrival just after 11 am. About 10 passengers and two crew members are learnt to have been taken to the Medanta medical centre at the airport.
An Air India spokesperson said: "Air India confirms that flight AI2379, operating from Phuket to Delhi on 4 August, experienced a brief in-flight turbulence-related event during cruise, resulting in a momentary change in altitude.
