'Butterfly Raksha Bandhan' Celebrated at Van Vihar Bhopal
On Saturday, August 29, a "Butterfly Raksha Bandhan Festival" was organized at Van Vihar National Park Bhopal from 1 AM to 12 noon for visiting tourists, with the aim of raising public awareness about butterfly conservation. This event represents a significant initiative towards fostering a sense of sensitivity and responsibility within society regarding nature, biodiversity, and the conservation of butterflies.
Linking the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan with nature conservation, the program featured activities such as tying symbolic protective threads (raksha sutras) for butterflies and taking a pledge for their conservation. The underlying message was that butterflies are not merely symbols of nature's beauty but are also vital links in the ecosystem and the pollination process.
Through this program, Van Vihar naturalists Kriti Jain and Ganesh educated children, youth, and general citizens about the butterfly life cycle, their habitats, their role in pollination, and the importance of biodiversity conservation.
Participants were urged to protect the natural habitats of butterflies, promote local plants and flowering flora, and contribute to biodiversity conservation by adopting nature-friendly practices. The event was conducted under the guidance of the Van Vihar administration. To encourage the participants, the Assistant Director of Van Vihar presented them with man-made butterflies to serve as raksha sutras.
