India Moves Closer to Indigenous Fighter Jet Engine Production with Reliance-Rolls-Royce Partnership
India is poised to take a major step towards self-reliance in defense technology, as engines for the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) will now be manufactured domestically. Reliance Industries Limited and Rolls-Royce have joined forces to develop and manufacture advanced aircraft engines in India.
The two companies will establish a specialized aerospace gas turbine complex that will cover the entire lifecycle of aircraft engine development—ranging from design and testing to manufacturing, delivery, and long-term maintenance support.
India to Get Its Own Advanced Jet Engine Manufacturing Facility
The upcoming aerospace complex will serve as a key hub for developing next-generation engine technology within India. This initiative is expected to enhance the country's capability to produce high-performance fighter jet engines and reduce reliance on foreign technology.

Anant Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries, stated that indigenous technology is essential for India's security and future growth.
He said that the partnership with Rolls-Royce would help create a comprehensive ecosystem for fighter jet engine manufacturing in India. According to him, this initiative will support India's defense self-reliance and enable Indian companies to compete in the international market.
He added that this collaboration aligns with the vision of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) and will contribute to building a robust domestic defense industry.
Rolls-Royce CEO Calls It a Historic Opportunity
Rolls-Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgic described the partnership as a significant milestone. They stated that this collaboration would combine Rolls-Royce's decades of experience in aircraft engine technology with Reliance's industrial capabilities.
The partnership aims to establish a robust and sustainable foundation for aircraft engine manufacturing in India, thereby unlocking new opportunities within the aerospace sector.

AMCA: India's Fifth-Generation Fighter Jet Project
India's fifth-generation fighter aircraft, the 'Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft' (AMCA), is currently under development. Its production model received approval last year, and work on the project is progressing rapidly.
There are plans to induct this aircraft into both the Indian Air Force and the Indian Navy, with completion expected by 2035.
