MP: Good news from Madhav Tiger Reserve in Shivpuri on Independence Day-2026; Tigress MT-4 gives birth to cubs
Dilip Ahirwar, Minister of State for Forest and Environment, has expressed happiness over tigress MT-4 giving birth to cubs at Madhav Tiger Reserve, Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, on the occasion of Independence Day. He stated that the birth of the tiger cubs is a delightful outcome of the continuous efforts being made for wildlife conservation in the state.
Minister Ahirwar remarked that this achievement is a positive result of the effective measures being undertaken for the conservation and propagation of wildlife in the state. He added that under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, the state is working steadfastly and continuously towards the conservation of tigers and other wildlife. He extended his congratulations and best wishes to the people of the state on this happy achievement.
Madhav Tiger Reserve, located in the Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh, spans roughly 375 sq km of core area. Formerly Madhav National Park, it was officially declared India's 58th tiger reserve in March 2025. The sanctuary features dry deciduous forests, rolling hills, and scenic lakes like Sakhya Sagar.
The reserve features a diverse mix of dry deciduous forests, lakes, and grasslands. The reserve houses Bengal tigers , leopards, sloth bears, and striped hyenas.
The herbivores include chital (spotted deer), sambar, nilgai, chinkara, and chousingha (four-horned antelope). Crocodiles are abundant in Sakhya Sagar lake. Indian rock pythons are also found in the reserve.
Over 300 bird species, including white-necked storks, painted storks, greylag geese, and various migratory waterfowls, add to the charm and beauty of the park.
