SW Monsoon 2026: Rivers in spate in UP, flood alert issued in Prayagraj, Badrinath Highway closes after landslide in Uttarakhand, check IMD predictions
SW Monsoon 2026: The monsoon has gained momentum once again in UP. Eleven rivers—including the Ganga, Yamuna, and Sharda—are in spate. In Chitrakoot, the water level of the Mandakini River has also started rising, submerging the bridge that connects UP and MP; floodwaters have reached residential colonies and homes.
The Ganges River is in spate in Varanasi. More than 100 small temples along the ghats have been submerged.
IMD has isued a flood alert in Prayagraj due to the rising water levels of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers.
Following three hours of rainfall in Lucknow, water levels on the roads rose to two feet, turning streets in several areas into ponds.
In Uttarakhand's Chamoli district, a landslide occurred near Bajpur late Saturday night due to heavy rainfall, leading to the closure of the Badrinath Highway.
In Himachal Pradesh, 183 people have lost their lives in monsoon-related incidents between June 30 and August 15. As of 5 PM on Saturday, 103 roads across the state remained closed.
