MP: Highway signs invite travelers to discover Betul's rural charm
Betul: The Tourism Department has launched a new initiative in Madhya Pradesh's Betul district to promote rural tourism and connect tourists with accommodation facilities available in villages. The department has installed attractive, designer boards along the Betul-Itarsi four-lane highway; these boards inform travelers about homestays developed in villages such as Bancha and Bajjarwada.
Promotional boards have been installed at intervals of approximately one kilometer along the four-lane highway between Betul and Shahpur. Crafted from designer iron latticework, these boards display information regarding homestays, accommodation, and dining facilities available in rural areas.
According to the department, the district holds significant potential for rural and nature tourism, yet tourists from outside often lack information about the facilities available at these locations. Specially designed houses in Bancha and Bajjarwada have been developed to accommodate tourists, offering both lodging and dining services. Efforts are now underway to guide tourists to these locations using the promotional boards installed on the highway.
Atul Agnihotri, manager with the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Department, stated that boards have been placed at various points along the Betul-Itarsi four-lane highway. Their objective is to inform travelers passing through about the district's rural tourism sites and the available accommodation options.
The Tourism Department is also developing tourism service centers at two locations to facilitate tourists visiting the district. These centers are planned to provide information about various tourist attractions in the district alongside accommodation facilities.
Work on cutting into the hillside for the tourism service center in the Kosmi area of Betul has already begun. A similar service center is being constructed in Multai. Once completed, these centers will provide tourists with information about the district's major tourist attractions all in one place.
The department hopes that these efforts will help connect tourists with the homestays developed in rural areas like Bancha and Bajjarwada. The department aims to go beyond merely facilitating the transit of travelers using the four-lane highway; it seeks to attract them to the rural, natural, and local tourist destinations of Betul. Facilities for accommodation and dining are also available at Bajjarwada and Bancha.
